(Or at least that’s how it looked to me, back then.
I’m internally debating whether to reproduce that design, on this new iteration…)
It was called DanBergaMondo, that is “the World of DanBergam” (“Mondo” being the italiano word for “world”).
You clicked it, right?
And it returned a saddening “404” page, I know.
It happened, that I maintained that website for a few years, but given it was bounded to a provider, it had a rule attached: that I, as the administrator, should log-in at least once a year: no editing, no adding content… even only logging in, would suffice for them to leave it alone.
But nine years ago life took an unforeseeable path, and such things happened that, that year, I forgot to log-in on time… and my beloved, proudly built DanBergaMondo V1.0 was gone…
I remembered about it months after, but it was just too late.
I’ve been leaving traces of my passage in many places, online, since then: MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, a couple forums, Google Plus, and first on Blogger, and then on WordPress.com, for what concerns blogging… and I’m certainly forgetting a few more websites… virtual environments, so to speak, each one characterized by peculiar features, spirit and purpose, each one with their own strengths and limits.
I’ve been seeing them change, through the years… and, I regret to admit it, most of the times, to worse, usually when the chance to get profit from a social network/website suddenly turned widely popular pushed the owners to reduce the possibility of a content producer to have their content stand up the competition… unless certain particular requirements are satisfied.
Ah, well.
Turning around, looking for a platform where to share my production, my thoughts, my volcanic creativity, it seems hard to find something apt… and the idea of a platform first looking ideal, and then unavoidably ruined by someone’s wish to make money out of it, doesn’t help at all…
That’s why I thought, “Daniele, shouldn’t you bring back your personal home on the web, a place where to give hints about your world, without barriers or limits? What about bringing back your DanBergaMondo?”
Well, I’d still need YouTube to effectively post a video, and WordPress to post a blog and Instagram to post a picture (with words in it, mind you: that’s what a huge crowd actually does, and I’ve been one of them for the last three years)… but I’ve been feeling the need to have a central, a sort of headquarter, where to tie all the strings, a place where everything joins.
…and here we are.
Of all the platforms I’ve been a member of, so far, I’ve used the characteristics available for free… the counterpart of this, being that I’ve also necessarily accepted the limitations, the evolution not always in better against which it’s almost impossible to fight or to resist.
But this time, given I’ve also self-published my first book, the poetry collection “Chants for Love” (“Canti per Amore”, in Italian), I thought it has come the time for me be even more serious about it, and invest in a plan which can grant me all the room and space I need, and all the freedom I need (of course, always with some common sense, and in respect of rules and of that always valid principle “my freedom ends where your begins”) to express myself.
Boundlessly.
This website will be work-in-progress for a while (read: I need to discover, step by step, try by try, all that I can do with it!).
For now, you find the posts imported those two previous blogs of mine… doesn’t Time pass too fast?
I could invite it to slow down for a tea… but, you see, that’s not the point: to make good use of it, for its worth is invaluable, that’s the true point.
Stay tuned!
Daniele
